Family Home Evening

Tonight for Family Home Evening we had an activity inspired by a book I just read. It is called "Through the Window of Life" by Suzanne Freeman. In the book she has to pack up her family and travel up in to the mountains to live, taking only what they could carry. To make it more intense, we set a 20 minute timer and went to work packing our bags and grabbing what we thought we might need. Neal and I didn't have much discussion beforehand, but we did a pretty good job of dividing and conquering. I grabbed food for the whole family and clothes for myself, Caius and our new baby boy. Neal got blankets and valuable things we could use to barter with if we needed to. We put our coats on and headed out the door. We walked a few blocks and talked about what we each packed and why we thought we would need it, and what we forgot or wish we had. Neal was a good sport to do this even though he was tired. We found that we were pretty prepared! Things we forgot to grab or didn't have around were: 1) Our tent 2) water 3) the stroller 4) medicine/first aid kit 5) some sort of hunting weapon. These are our pictures!

I am so impressed! What a great idea to practice getting out in a hurry! You never know when it will come in handy to know where things are and what is most important to grab! I would think though that water and a tent would be good thing to keep close by and already packed. Good for you guys! Way to go!
