Cai's First Big Accident
Caius had his first big accident on Sunday. As we were leaving church, he faceplanted in to the sidewalk! He has a big bruise on his forehead, a fat lip, and a scrape all the way down his nose, to his lip. Neal and I both cried with him as we wiped the blood from his face. We raced home and Neal gave Caius a blessing. We gave him tylenol for the pain and wrapped him up in his blanket to bounce him. He took a little nap, then ate raspberries with daddy. (One of his favorite snacks!) This is a picture from about an hour after the accident. For us, it was one of the most difficult experiences we have had with Caius. All of the things you deal with when they are newborns, like their crying, and learning how to breastfeed, and waking up 5 times in the middle of the night, are nothing compared to this. Watching him fall was almost like a slow-motion video, and neither of us could stop it. Hearing the thud, when his head hit the ground was a sound I will never forget, and remembering it, makes my eyes water. All we could do is clean him up and hold him while he cried. I am grateful it was not worse, like a broken bone, or a gash that needed stitches! We hope we won't ever have to experience something like that with Cai!
Here he is the next day. It didn't take long for him to be back to his normal self, but he had a great big scab down the middle of his face. Today he looks a thousand times better, as the scab has come off. I will be applying some sort of scar serum soon, so let me know if you have used one that works really well!
Caius resting on Daddy's arm. This week Caius has learned to call out for daddy. I ask, "where is daddy?" And then he begins his search knocking on doors, and calling out, "Daaaa-d!" (He adds a very silent 'd' to the end of a loud daaa)
