Full-Term!

I am 37 weeks now! At this point I am considered full-term. Ideally the baby would be born after 39 weeks. It is hard to say that I hope he will wait until then. I am getting more and more uncomfortable every day. Neal and I get very little sleep these days, with all of my tossing and turning and bathroom trips. I also have Restless Legs Syndrome, so I move around and fidget all night long. What little sleep we do get isn't really quality sleep. While I can handle living like this, Neal doesn't seem to function very well on less than 8 hours of sleep. The other day, he came home from work so tired, that he went to sleep after dinner. He slept from 6:30 to 6:00 the next day.

We go to our doctor every week now for a check-up. We went yesterday, and everything looks great. The baby's heart rate is healthy and normal, and he is head down, turned the right way, ready to come out! The doctor checked my cervix and I am 1 cm dilated!!! I am thrilled about this. It doesn't mean that I am in labor or going into labor soon or anything. But it is encouraging to see that my body knows that this baby needs to come out soon! So hopefully this is a sign that he won't be overdue! I have been having braxton-hicks contractions almost every day which is another way that my body is preparing itself for labor.

I am planning to do a natural birth, without any pain medications. I really feel prepared. While I know it will be painful, I don't feel fearful or nervous about it. Neal and I took a 9-week Lamaze and Child Birth Preparation class. We learned a lot, and I think we both feel educated and prepared for the experience. We are both looking forward to bringing a beautiful baby boy home.

Here is a little update on his growth: "Your baby's lungs should be fully mature and ready to adjust to life outside the womb, even though your due date is still three weeks away.Your baby is still packing on the pounds — at the rate of about an ounce a day. Your baby weighs 6 1/3 pounds and measures a bit over 19 inches, head to heel. Many babies have a full head of hair at birth, with locks from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches long. But don't be surprised if your baby's hair isn't the same color as yours. Dark-haired couples are sometimes thrown for a loop when their children come out as blonds or redheads, and fair-haired couples have been surprised by Elvis look-alikes. And then, of course, some babies sport only peach fuzz.
