Bella Natal

I am planning a waterbirth at Bella Natal Birthing Suites. (It means beautiful birth.) Bella Natal is a Nataloc which means "birth place". A nataloc is very similiar to a birthing center. We have all our appointments here, and we had our ultrasound here as well. I know everyone is curious about it. I think sometimes when I tell someone I am seeing a midwife for my prenatal care, they imagine me seeing some hippie in her trailer home. Actually, our midwife is very professional. We go to our appointments (except I have NEVER had to wait) and do all the same things they do at a doctor's office. They take a urine sample and take my temperature, heart rate and blood pressure. There have been plenty of studies comparing low-risk women giving birth in a hospital with low-risk women giving birth at home. Intervention percentages were enough to convince me that I did not want to give birth in a hospital again. When I had Caius, we delivered at a really great hospital. It was great compared to many other hospitals around the country. Still, I didn't have the birth experience I wanted mostly due to the routine medical procedures I was forced to have, but didn't need. Neal and I have gotten the impression that people think we are being careless and ignorantant, or even selfish in our decision to birth at Bella Natal with a midwife. Our midwife is trained and experienced in overseeing normal births, as well as births where the mother or baby had complications. We are completely confident in her abilities. We have asked all the questions about safety that you are asking, and we were satisfied with the answers. We are doing this because of our safety concerns for myself and for our baby. And we won't be paying $800 for the longest most uncomfortable, mandatory wheelchair ride of my life...

This is the appointment room.
Here is the bedroom. On the other side of the room is a queen sized bed. We will most likely be birthing in the new suite, which was finished just a few months ago. It is pretty much the same, just a different color scheme.

This is the tub I will be giving birth in! It uses hygenic pipeless jets. I have been in the tub before and it is HUGE. It is SO deep, the water will be up to my shoulders. Oooh...what I wouldn't give to have one of these at home. There is also a second bathroom with a shower.

And this is the fully stocked kitchen. During our stay at Bella Natal, we will be free to help ourselves to whatever is in the fridge. :)

YEAH ROBIN! You show everybody that we aren't going to some slumhouse and having some hippie hex the baby out of you! Good idea in making this post. I would hope a lot of people will say, "Wow, that looks way nicer than the hospital!" Not only that, if we NEED a hospital, they'll take us right to it. Please, those of you who do, stop thinking that we are ignorant and don't know about all the things that can go wrong with childbirth and all the many reasons that the doctors have made you believe that you HAVE to give birth at a hospital. We've taken two childbirth classes now, and know about these problems quite well. But we believe that a lot of the problems that occur during childbirth, occur because of the stressful, "you-have-a-health-problem" environment of a hospital. I hope our experience is as good as we want it to be, and I hope you all hope this as well. We'll let you know how it goes. :)

Oh my goodness! Who would tell you you're being careless!?!? CARELESS? I hope I have never come across that way to you. I love that you did this post. If I could handle not having an epidural I'd definitely give birth there. I hated the mandatory 2-3 day stay at the hospital, I just wanted to go home! This place looks like a home. I wouldn't mind staying there for a couple days. Good luck!

Oh and I LOVE that they have a bassinet! So much more comfy for the baby than the plastic tubs in the hospital.

I'm really glad you are doing something different this time. It was so scary to watch both you and Rachel have babies. I couldn't ever get over the idea that there was just too much medical intervention which caused it's own set of problems. We pray for you every night and we are looking forward to welcoming the little guy into the family.

This place looks so much nicer, and much more comfortable than any hospital! I'm glad that you found somewhere that you can have an experience with less stress and no unnecessary medical procedures! Good luck!

If you are low risk and educated I think it's a perfectly good choice! Both of which you are... It's a choice of what you are comfortable with. But I can TOTALLY understand your idea of it. After having the birth I did I would love to have a more natural environment like this but I dont think they have anything like that here. I also wont have an option of doing this because of my delivery, and THAT is what is sad. But it does look WAY nicer than our hospital, and ours was pretty nice! lots of rooms at U of I had these tubs (I swear you could put 8 adults in there).
Honestly, this looks like a lot of nicer modern condos! looks good to me!
