Neal's Crib

Neal decided to make a family heirloom crib. It has really helped him feel involved in all of the baby preparations. He started by building shelves and a couple of work benches in our garage. Now he spends a little time every night and all day on Saturday's working on the crib. This is his first woodworking project ever, but he was determined to design and build his first child a crib. I sit in the garage and watch him work sometimes. So far it looks great!

I am 35 weeks pregnant now. 1 month to go! My baby belly is growing exponentially every day. Last week we were sent to the hospital because I thought my water broke. After a few hours of monitoring and running tests, they sent me home. There is a chance that I have something called a "high leak" which is a small tear at the top of my placenta. If that is the case, they can't do anything about it at this point, unless it tears more. But when the baby is born he will be carefully examined, and they will look for any signs of infection that may have entered through the tear. When we first got there, a nurse said, "Well, if your water did break, you'll be having a baby today!" Up until that time, both Neal and I were pretty calm. We were very relieved to be leaving the hospital later that day, still pregnant! Here is an update on Baby's growth: "Your baby doesn't have much room to maneuver now that he's over 18 inches long and tips the scales at 5 1/4 pounds (the size of a honeydew melon). Because it's so snug in your womb, he isn't likely to be doing somersaults anymore, but the number of times he kicks should remain about the same. His kidneys are fully developed now, and his liver can process some waste products. Most of his basic physical development is now complete — he'll spend the next few weeks putting on weight. "
