4 Weeks

Leland enjoying tummy time. (They always hate it at first!)
My beautiful baby boy.
Sleeping peacefully in his swing.
Leland with his frazzled mommy.

Leland is 4 weeks old now! It hasn't been the easiest 4 weeks of our lives, but we made it! I continue to think of this whole experience of giving birth and then caring for a newborn along with an 18 month old a lively little dog and a husband, and I know how hard it has been, yet I feel so fulfilled. I know I am doing exactly what I should be doing in my life. I may be frazzled now, but I know it is nothing permanent, and I look forward to when I am a little more organized. In the meantime I am enjoying every little milestone I see Leland reach. Leland is growing faster than Caius did. He is already fitting in to some 0-3 month clothes and growing out of the newborn onesies. He has even moved up to size 1 diaper! Last week, when Leland turned 3 weeks old, he started smiling! I know it is pretty early, but he really does smile at me! He is just like Caius was, he is happiest in the morning when he first wakes up.

Leland is starting to stay awake for longer periods of time, but is still pretty sleepy during the day. He has started to sleep about 7 hours at night, which is really really close to sleeping through the night! (Which he did once.) I think when he is a little older, he will be able to go longer without needing to wake up to nurse.

He is looking older now and we have determined that he does look very similar to Caius, but since we see them both all the time we notice all the features they don't share. Leland's face is a little bit longer, he has a pointier chin and much different nose. Also his arms and legs are shorter than Cai's were.

We do a lot of bouncing and swaddling and shushing to keep Leland happy. The bouncing is his favorite!

He looks so precious! And he does look a lot like Caius to this grandma's old eyes. I wish I could give all of you a hug!

Wow! I can't believe he's four weeks old already and growing so much! I'm glad you're surviving. You have such a wonderful attitude. I got your comment about your blog book that you're working on. Keep up with it! Even if you only do a little here and there, don't give up. It is so worth it. You'll be glad you did. There's a bit of a learning curve with the blog books. My first one had some major "Oops" in them that I know not to repeat now. Even with the imperfections, I think they are wonderful!
